Some high school students who wore tee shirts with the American flag were kicked out of school on May 5, 2010, Cinco de Mayo.  School administrator said the U.S. flag was incendiary and could upset Mexican-American students.  Query:  Why would the American flag upset a Mexican-American?  Isn’t the American flag also the flag of Mexican-Americans?  See “Students punished for wearing American flags on Cinco de Mayo.”

See “California High School Sends Kids Home for Wearing American Flag on Cinco de Mayo,” in which law professor Eugene Volokh says that the school’s actions may have violated California Education Code § 48950.
