Arizona Republic:  “The last great acknowledgment of holiday cheer among combatants during wartime was the Christmas Truce early in World War I.  After all these years, now comes another.  Maricopa County, at war with itself for more than a year, has declared peace on Earth and goodwill to supervisors, judges, sheriffs and county attorneys . . .  for now.  The angel of peace in this conflict is retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor.  The justice has been appointed by the high court to referee the myriad legal battles between the county supervisors and Superior Court officers on one side and County Attorney Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Joe Arpaio on the other.”
