Arizona Republic:  “Avondale Councilwoman Stephanie Karlin is concerned about the proliferation of plastic bags.  ‘There are 90 billion plastic bags used throughout the United States, and they end up in the landfill and they’re not biodegradable,’ Karlin said in an interview Friday.  ‘They clog up the recycling machines, and they get in the waste stream, and they cause an enormous amount of damage.  And there’s the petroleum thing. We need to be more conscious of our carbon footprint and our dependency on petroleum products.'”
