County Bar Group in Alabama Files Suit to Ban LegalZoom

ABA Journal: The DeKalb County Bar Association asked a judge Friday to permanently prohibit online forms company LegalZoom from doing business in the state of Alabama for engaging in the unauthorized practice of law.

LegalZoom, founded by O.J. Simpson lawyer Robert Shapiro and partners, offers standardized legal documents such as wills and incorporation documents that can be customized to the buyer’s preference. The company has served more than 1 million customers in its 10 years online…

Does Congress Care About Unemployed New Law Grads? Maybe…

The National Law Journal:  U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer isn’t the only politician worried about the plight of jobless young lawyers.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter on July 11 to American Bar Association President Stephen Zack asking for written responses to 31 questions about how the organization is regulating law schools. Boxer (D-Calif.), has written two letters to Zack in recent months expressing concern over law graduate unemployment rates and the veracity of reported job statistics.

U.S. Has Enough Revenue To Send Out Social Security Checks Despite Obama’s Claim

The Washington Examiner: President Obama told CBS News today that he “cannot guarantee that those

[Social Security] checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it.”

But wait just a minute. If Washington receives about $200 billion in monthly revenues and sends out roughly $50 billion worth of Social Security checks and the same amount of Medicare payments, why is Obama claiming the checks may not go out?

Isn’t $200 billion minus $100 billion still $100 billion?

Law Enforcement Wants To See Your Facebook

Fox News:  U.S. law-enforcement agencies are increasingly obtaining warrants to search Facebook, often gaining detailed access to users’ accounts without their knowledge.

A Reuters review of the Westlaw legal database shows that since 2008, federal judges have authorized at least two dozen warrants to search individuals’ Facebook accounts. Many of the warrants requested a laundry list of personal data such as messages, status updates, links to videos and photographs, calendars of future and past events, “Wall postings” and “rejected Friend requests.”
